GVA:DATA
A civic data initiative connecting local knowledge, shared data stewardship and civic research in Geneva.
GVA:DATA brings residents, workers, researchers, media and civic organisations together around Geneva's shared questions. Its proposed projects help people collect and understand their own data from platforms, such as Uber drivers documenting their working conditions, residents examining their data from AI platforms, and media audiences and producers tracing how attention is monetised. It also explores the data, contractual and legal infrastructure needed to sustain commons across sometimes competing environments.
GVA:DATA is the first place of DATA:FOUNDATION, and a place on the map: in the language of number theory, it plays the role of a finite place. Its methods and lessons are meant to inform other places, while its questions remain rooted in Geneva, connecting local and international Geneva. Formerly at gva.data.foundation, its website is now part of data.foundation.
